ŠKODA AUTO reveals further details of the new FABIA and gives a first impression of the interior of the fourth model generation in an official design sketch. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0, the interior of the popular small car offers even more room, an enhanced sense of spaciousness and fresh colours. Technologies from higher vehicle classes have also been incorporated. The Czech car manufacturer is systematically refining the interior concept already implemented in the current ŠKODA OCTAVIA by introducing new details in the FABIA. The new ŠKODA FABIA will be celebrating its world premiere at the beginning of May.

 

The new, fourth generation of the ŠKODA FABIA is based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0, making it longer and wider than its predecessor. This extra room creates a more spacious atmosphere for passengers. The symmetrically designed instrument panel with its central, free-standing display and a coloured horizontal decorative trim accentuates the width of the interior, and the character line beneath the display mirrors the ŠKODA grille. Large round air outlets on the right and left create new accents, as do the coloured elements in the centre console and door handles along with the newly designed chrome door openers. One of the design sketches also reveals prominent FABIA lettering on the side of the instrument panel.

Large touch display as a central element
The large, free-standing display dominates the aesthetic of the new ŠKODA FABIA’s interior. The touch screen enables the modern infotainment systems as well as many other vehicle functions to be controlled with ease. The design sketch also shows the customisable Virtual Cockpit, which is a key feature of larger ŠKODA models and is now making its debut as an option for the FABIA. The world premiere of the fourth FABIA generation is set for beginning of May.

ŠKODA AUTO is building anticipation for the upcoming fourth generation of the FABIA by releasing the first official design sketches. The popular small car from the Czech car manufacturer will be significantly larger, more dynamic and more expressive than its successful predecessors. Switching over to the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0 has made the new proportions possible and created even more space for passengers and luggage. Additional highlights include the sharply drawn front headlights and rear lights featuring LED technology. The world premiere of the new ŠKODA FABIA will take place this May.

 

Two of the design sketches show the clear, modern and dynamically drawn lines of the new ŠKODA FABIA. The fourth generation will be 111 millimetres longer and 48 millimetres wider than its predecessor. This is the first time the new FABIA will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0. In addition to even more space for passengers, this also adds an extra 50 litres to the boot. The diagonal front view offers a first glimpse of the flat front headlights and the wide ŠKODA grille, which has a sporty, elegant look with a chrome frame and black ribs. Large wheels also enhance the powerful appearance.

The elongated roof spoiler with side finlets ensure excellent aerodynamics along with the aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors and actively adjustable cooling shutters in the front bumper’s lower air inlet.

The other sketches give a more detailed impression of the new ŠKODA FABIA’s modern light units. The modules resemble blocks of ice in the sharply cut full-LED front headlights, which extend up to the ŠKODA grille. An L-shaped daytime running light module can be seen, as well. ŠKODA’s signature crystalline elements can also be found in the graphics of the distinctly flat rear lights that will be available in a full-LED version.

Even with the first generation, which was also presented as an estate in 2000, 1.79 million units were produced in approximately eight years, while the second generation unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2007 found a total of 1,704,000 buyers. The third generation launched in 2014 continued the success story and became ŠKODA’s second most popular model after the OCTAVIA, for example in 2019. The Czech manufacturer’s total production volume of more than 4.7 million FABIAs to date is surpassed only by the OCTAVIA.

Set to deliver an enhanced dynamic look, SportLine models feature black exterior detailing, a three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel and sports seats with integrated headrests. Available as a hatch or estate, both can be ordered with the optional DCC Dynamic Chassis Control and a number of driver assistance systems. The range comprises diesels, petrol engines, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.

The exterior of the new model is defined by the black detailing familiar from the SportLine variants for other ŠKODA models. A distinctive front spoiler, the frame of the ŠKODA grille, rear diffuser and the ŠKODA lettering on the tailgate all come in gloss black. The hatch also boasts a black rear spoiler. Standard equipment for the OCTAVIA SportLine includes 18-inch Vega wheels.

The OCTAVIA SportLine is available with efficient petrol and diesel engines as well as plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid technology and is offered in either front wheel or all-wheel drive. Power outputs range from 85 kW (115 PS) to 150 kW (204 PS). The 1.5 TSI with 110 kW (150 PS) can be ordered with an optional 7-speed DSG and mild-hybrid technology, while the 2.0 TSI with 140 kW (190 PS) comes with DSG and all-wheel drive as standard. The plug-in hybrid model provides an output of 150 kW (204 PS), while the 2.0 TDI can be ordered with 85 kW (115 PS), 110 kW (150 PS) and 147 kW (200 PS). The 110 kW (150 PS) diesel has DSG and all-wheel drive as options, while they are included as standard with the 147 kW (200 PS) diesel engine. DCC Dynamic Chassis Control is available as an option and offers settings ranging from comfortable to sporting and continuously adjusts the damping characteristics of the car. Optional safety features include the proactive occupant protection system Crew Protect Assist with rollover function, safety assistance systems such as Collision Avoidance Assist and Turn Assist as well as the new central airbag between the front seats. 

Inside, the SportLine includes a fabric finish around the instrument panel as well as Piano Black decorative strips. The sports seats have integrated headrests and are fitted with breathable ThermoFlux upholstery.

The ENYAQ iV made a strong impression at its Red Dot premiere, winning the prestigious Red Dot for outstanding product design. The electric SUV won over the international jury of experts with its expressive, powerful design language. The ENYAQ iV thus seamlessly continues the Czech car manufacturer’s success story with the coveted award; ŠKODA AUTO has won 16 Red Dot Awards to date.

The ENYAQ iV’s bold design philosophy is expressed in balanced proportions, sculptural lines and its distinctive grille. For its first electric SUV, the manufacturer also offers the optional Crystal Face, which consists of 131 LEDs that illuminate the radiator grille, creating a fascinating front. The Crystal Face also combines with the animated Coming/Leaving Home function to produce a unique effect. The indicators with running light function at the rear of the electric SUV round off its captivating appearance.

The ENYAQ iV also sets new standards inside, scoring points for its extremely spacious interior. The room it offers matches the KODIAQ, despite the electric vehicle being shorter than the compact OCTAVIA. Design Selections, which reflect tastefully furnished living environments, replace the traditional equipment lines. ‘Loft’, for example, is inspired by modern family apartments, ‘Lodge’ is characterised by its particularly sustainable materials, and ‘Lounge’ combines sophistication with exclusivity. In terms of connectivity, the SUV model offers a 13-inch infotainment display and a head-up display including augmented reality, as well as remote-controlled parking via the MyŠKODA app. Offering more than 520 kilometres in the WLTP cycle, ENYAQ iV drivers benefit from a range suitable for everyday use without local exhaust emissions.

Some 50 experts evaluate products from around 60 countries
The Red Dot Award is one of the best-known design competitions in the world and is regarded as a symbol of high-quality product design. The international jury comprises independent trade journalists, designers and design lecturers. This year at the 66th run of the Red Dot Awards, the experts individually tested, discussed and evaluated approximately 7,800 products submitted from around 60 countries. They paid special attention to criteria such as innovation, formal quality, functionality, durability and ecological sustainability.

With the award for the ENYAQ iV, ŠKODA has now received the coveted red seal of quality for product design for the 16th time. The Czech car manufacturer also won the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design’ 2019 in the category ‘Brands’ for its successful brand communication.

ŠKODA AUTO is systematically continuing its internationalisation: In the United Arab Emirates, ŠKODA has now opened a new showroom in Dubai. It offers space for 40 vehicles over an area of 1,200 square metres, making it the Czech car manufacturer’s largest showroom in the world. The ŠKODA model portfolio on offer in the UAE now comprises six models, including the three SUV series KAMIQ, KAROQ and KODIAQ. 

Martin Jahn, ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for Sales and Marketing, emphasises: “We are consistently advancing our company’s internationalisation as one of the core elements of our NEXT LEVEL ŠKODA programme for the future. We are developing new markets in a targeted manner so that we can continue to grow profitably. In Dubai, we are opening the world’s largest ŠKODA showroom spanning 1,200 square metres, thus underscoring the successful global development of our brand. By expanding our presence in the United Arab Emirates, we are consolidating and strengthening our position.” 

In Dubai, there is space for 40 vehicles in what is now the world’s largest ŠKODA showroom. To offer customers the best possible advice, the company relies not only on the personal approach of its local employees but also on the latest digital technologies. 

The Czech car manufacturer’s vehicles are showcased by the local dealer Ali & Sons, with whom ŠKODA has been cooperating since 2010. In addition to the new salesroom in Dubai, existing and prospective customers of the brand now have access to a total of three dealerships, one in Abu Dhabi and one in al-Ain. 

The SCALA and KAMIQ model series went on sale in the UAE in 2020, and in the first quarter of this year the fourth-generation OCTAVIA and the KAROQ joined the line-up; the large SUV model KODIAQ and the ŠKODA SUPERB round off the range. This means that ŠKODA now offers six model series to meet all local customer needs. 

A look at the brand’s development in the market proves that ŠKODA’s characteristic spaciousness, clear design and many Simply Clever features appeal to its customers in the Persian Gulf: in 2020, the Czech carmaker was able to increase its deliveries in the United Arab Emirates by 35 per cent.
